Udhayanidhi Stalin interacts with athletes in foodcourt even as rain threat looms
With the Meteorological department warning of heavy rain across the State in the next three days, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor stadium and took stock of the preparations for the smooth conduct of the CM Trophy games 2024.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also the Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, visited the food court, witnessed judo action and gave away the prizes and also interacted with officials to understand the arrangements made.
The 2024 CM Trophy will witness over 33,000 participants from 38 districts and will compete across five categories – school, college students, public, government employees and differently-abled persons -- in 36 sports disciplines.
Addressing the media during the visit, Udhayanidhi Stalin said the officials have made all the necessary arrangements for transport and accommodation of the athletes in case it rains heavily and there may be extension of the Games beyond its actual schedule.
Pointing out that the main objective of the CM Trophy is to unearth talent from the grassroots level, Udhayanidhi Stalin expressed happiness over the increased participation in the Games. “We have around 12 Lakh participants this year in district level competitions which is a big jump from last season's 5 lakh participants.”
In the on-going state level CM Trophy Games which are mid-way through, Chennai district leads the medal tally with over 50 gold medals in its 125+ overall tally.
