Chengalpattu district rode on three gold medals from the badminton arena to jump to second spot in the CM Trophy 2024 medals tally on Wednesday.
R Pravandhika bagged a double crown, winning the college girls’ singles gold and then teamed up with Shreya Balaji to win the doubles gold. The combination of A Vimal Raj and G Santhosh then bagged the college boys’ doubles title to take Chengalpattu‘s tally to six gold and one silver.
Chennai district continues on the top of the standings with 9 gold, 2 silver and 9 bronze while Erode district is third with five gold, 3 silver and one bronze.
The 2024 CM Trophy will witness over 33,000 participants from 38 districts and will compete across five categories – school, college students, public, government employees and differently-abled persons -- in 36 sports disciplines.
Elsewhere, Chennai district clinched the school boys football gold medal with a dominating performance that saw them stay unbeaten throughout the competition.
Chennai scored facile wins over Salem (3-0), Theni (3-0) and Trichy (5-1) districts in the round-robin format to clinch the gold medal. Salem took home the silver with 1 win and a draw.
